Guerilla Bench Workshop
Can benches make a community before the buildings do?
The aim is to create a recognisable module out of construction waste and spread it around Centrumeiland – not only to create places to sit, but also to introduce moments of anchoring and culture in the stretched out landscape of construction sites. In the first Guerilla Bench Workshop, we made 6 straight benches of pallets and formwork. In the second session, we made 6 more benches in a hexagon shape, which can be distributed in pairs.
With the idea of replicability – these materials are available as long as the construction sites are around – we will organise workshops to build and paint these benches with local residents. This way, they will get their unique colors, patterns and symbols, connecting residents to the public space that will be under construction for the coming 5 years.
To be continued.
